Bundesliga website “The best Korean player of all time, Son Heung-min, not Cha Bum-keun”
The German Bundesliga chose ‘Sony’ Heung-min Son (31, Tottenham), not ‘Cha Boom’ Cha Bum-geun (70) as the best Korean player ever.
The Bundesliga official website announced 토토사이트 the top 5 best Korean players of all time. Son Heung-min, Cha Bum-geun, Cha Du-ri, Koo Ja-cheol, and Lee Jae-seong were named. Most notably, Son Heung-min pushed Cha Bum-keun to second place.
The Bundesliga said, “With Kim Min-jae joining Munich, he became the 23rd Korean player ever to play in the Bundesliga. Arguably, the most famous and successful Korean player in Germany is Son Heung-min. Son Heung-min, who came to Germany at the age of 16, worked for Leverkusen via Hamburg. At the age of 18, Son Heung-min already played soccer at a level that other 30-year-old players could not do.”
Regarding Cha Bum-kun, “Cha Bum-kun, the first Korean player in the Bundesliga, was the best Asian player in the 20th century. He represented Darmstadt, Frankfurt and Leverkusen, playing a pioneering role for Korea in Europe. In particular, he won the 1980 UEFA Cup with Frankfurt. After moving to Leverkusen, he achieved even greater success by contributing to the 1988 UEFA Cup victory.”
The Bundesliga continued, “Cha Bum-kun earned the nickname ‘Cha Boom’ for his thunderous shooting. He remains the Korean player with the most appearances in Bundesliga history with 98 goals in 308 matches. He scored 10 goals in 21 matches in the DFB Cup and added 4 goals in 19 matches in Europe.
